CASE STUDY

Engaging a Diverse Workforce - An Introduction to Allyship

One of the key facets of our inclusion plan for the year has been introducing the concept of allyship and the role of allies as agents for change in our organisation.

When assessing the challenges we faced in the lack of diversity of not just the organisation but the sector, we realised early on that bringing everyone on the journey with us was extremely important. The role of an ally is more than championing equality or sympathising with those who face discrimination. It is being willing to act with and for others in pursuit of ending oppression and creating equality. Bringing our people on a collective allyship journey with us has allowed us to focus on equipping and empowering them to influence and create the change they want to see in the organisation.

This year we’ve committed to invest in training and awareness building for a number of volunteer allies who wanted to become more active in our D&I journey. In addition to this, we’ve created resource hubs for our people to access a variety of book recommendations, documentaries, TV series’ and podcasts that help educate on the lived experiences of underrepresented groups in society.
